Explanation of
our hotel rating system
Each smiley face represents a guidebook that lists the
hotel. Just place the mouse pointer over the smiley face to reveal the name of the
guidebook. The guidebooks used to compile the list of hotels are:

Guide to Peru (5th Edition) Published in February 2007

Information on hotel pricing
Prices listed are for a double room unless otherwise
noted. Prices are in US dollars and are to be used for guide purposes only.
Please contact the hotel to obtain up-to-date prices.
Prices generally do not include sales tax (known as IGV)
since tourists are exempt from paying this tax as long as you can show your
passport and immigration slip (which is given to you when you arrive in
Peru). Peruvians and residents are not exempt from sales taxes so they have
to pay an extra 19% which seems a little unfair!!
Useful information when making a room booking
First of all consult the hotel's website (if applicable)
for up-to-date information about services and prices. Many websites have a
form that you can fill in to check room availability or make a reservation.
A single room
in Spanish is known as a "simple", a twin room (a room with 2 single beds)
is known as a "doble" and a room with a double bed (one large bed for 2
persons) is known as "matrimonial".
If you need to
send an e-mail to the hotel please try to keep your English as simple as
possible. Try to keep the subject of your e-mail limited to the services
offered by the hotel. Include your name, how many people there are in your
group, how many rooms you want, what type of rooms you want, your check-in
date (arrival date) and check-out date (departure date). Don't ask 101
questions about the weather, shopping, tours etc as this will only
complicate the issue.
Try to limit
sending an email to one hotel at a time and not spamming several hotels with
the same questions. If you don't hear back in a reasonable period (say 3
days) then try emailing another hotel.
Some hotels
don't require you to pay for your room in advance and don't even ask you for
a deposit. Try to be considerate and if you have to cancel your booking
please try to contact the hotel as the earliest opportunity.
